Denson Blake – A Finalist in the Northern Kitchen Design Awards 2013
There was a rush of excitement within the design studio of Denson Blake on Tuesday. We received an e-mail congratulating us. At first, I have to be honest I thought it was perhaps one of those e-mails from someone telling me I had received a large sum of unclaimed money. You know the sort where they tell you it is in an African account or something similar and we just need your account details? I cautiously opened it with trepidation, fearing days of undoing some terrible computer virus.
We were utterly relieved to discover it was not in fact a virus, but in fact an e-mail notifying us that we are a finalist in the very prestigious Northern Design Awards 2013. For a number of reasons this nomination means a great deal to me. Driving Denson Blake forward has been challenging at times. Bucking the normal process of ranges and showrooms has not been easy. I have been determined to keep the focus on a truly unique approach, as well as original and very personal designs for each of our clients. Making a kitchen easier to understand has taken a creative approach to how a client looks at a handmade kitchen.
For me personally being shortlisted in a kitchen design awards ceremony, especially one as prestigious as this, has, if nothing else been worth the effort so far.
Kitchen Design Awards 2013
The evening promises to be a great evening hosted by Wayne Hemmingway and judged by some really great designers such as; Sir Terence Conran, Linda Barker Yorkshire’s home grown designer amongst many more, along with media partners Livingetc, Cheshire Life, Lancashire Life. Living in Yorkshire I have to mention Yorkshire Life Magazine.
On a personal note the evening will be incredibly special, the venue is the church and school my Grandma went to. It is less than a mile as the crow flies from where she lived. So it will prove to be a trip down memory lane. She is the reason I wanted to take my middle name and make it part of my families surname, in memory of her. This area of Manchester is the roots of where my family came from, although I have to confess to not having been there for a number of years. I am looking forward to crossing the same threshold she will have done many years ago and seeing through my own eyes some of what she will have seen when she was younger, that for me is going to be very special.
The Kitchen Design Awards Evening
Both my wife and I (and our third unborn child) will be going to this and are looking forward to the evening immensely. It is going to be held at The Monastery on Gorton Lane, Manchester. It will be great to meet some of the people who have been nominated. There are some great designs this year and the best of luck to all those that have entered. It promises to be a great evening no matter what the outcome for Denson Blake is. It is time to dust off the dancing shoes and celebrate all that is good about design and property.
I know if she was alive today she would be very proud that our work had been nominated for a kitchen design awards ceremony.
